API 5L X52 Line Pipe Specifications

API 5L pipelines are widely used for transporting oil, natural gas, water, and for the natural gas industry. API 5L refers to the American Petroleum Institute's standard, Oil and gas pipelines include seamles pipes and welded pipes, and have three types of ends: plain, threaded, and socketed. The main steel grades are B, X42, X46, X52, X56, X65, and X70.

The main steel grades are B, X42, X46, X52, X56, X65, and X70.

  Overview of API 5L Standard

  The API 5L standard was first published in 1926, initially including only three steel grades: A25, A, and B. With the development of industrial needs, API released the API 5L standard in 1947, adding three higher-level steel grades: X42, X46, and X52.

  After dozens of revisions, the latest API SPEC 5L, version 46 (released in 2018), has made significant updates to version 45, including requirements for welded joints, an expanded scope of non-destructive testing, and the addition of requirements for longitudinal plastic strain capacity.

  This standard is harmonized with the ISO 3183 international standard, achieving global standard consistency.

 standard specifies two product specification levels: PSL1 and PSL2.
